This is a (4) day/ 4 part Saturday program beginning Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 with the last day of completion on Saturday March 25th. Students experience first-hand the roles involved in the gaming industry. Students work in teams of 6-8 to design a functioning video game built with Unity. Unity is the leading industry tool utilized for game development. The tool provides a great platform for teaching Physics concepts and is a powerful rendering engine fully integrated with a complete set of intuitive tools and rapid workflows to create 3D and 2D content.

From concept design through delivering a game to market this program will take students through a journey to understand the career opportunities and the roles involved within the rapidly growing and globally competitive gaming industry. This program is more than learning to create “cool” games, it expands a student’s mind to realize the career opportunities that surround the excitement of gaming throughout many industries across STEAM today and growing.

The CreatingIDEAS program begins with teaching students about the hardware requirements and engineering design of high end PC’s utilized to create graphic intense programs. In order to begin developing their video game the teams must first build the computer, install the operating system, install Unity then begin the design process and follow a rubric that outlines the competencies they must demonstrate. They must ensure the game design supports solving a problem that creates an impact on our lives in positive ways. They will present a final 2-3 minute video trailer and presentation of their game design. Teams must meet timelines for the deliverables and work collaboratively and demonstrate good digital citizenship at all times.

Each year we have industry experts in fields across (STEAM) Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math join us for panel discussions to share their career experience and answer questions from the students.

At the close of the program each year our student teams present to a panel of judges to compete for fun prizes.  Parents are invited to join us to be a part of this exciting moment where students share their experience and what they have learned over the 10 days with us.
